This course has been absolutely incredible, it was quite literally an answer to many of my prayers as I had made several attempts at herbal medicine making, and quickly gave up because it was all far too overwhelming.
The way Callie explains everything is very captivating and easy to follow, and I love how easy it feels to integrate these things into my life when they seemed so complicated before. I've been inspired in so many ways to pursue things I don't believe I would have had the confidence to dive into earlier on.
The tea making class definitely activated the biggest fire in me, and i've been really enjoying experimenting with different herb combos and gifting tea blends to my friends and coworkers, it's become a love language in itself! It's been helping me start to break out of my shell in a myriad of ways that I definitely think I need, as I'm naturally very quiet and introverted, and I've found myself reaching out and making more connections with people in my everyday life in ways that I believe are beneficial for everyone.
These classes are quite literally the highlight of my month, you can really feel the love, time and energy Callie has put into creating this course, and none of those details have gone unnoticed. I'm endlessly grateful for this opportunity to learn from her, and so excited for what's still to come.

We begin where all true medicine making begins: in relationship with the plants and the land. This foundational class focuses on ethical harvesting, seasonal timing, plant identification, and conscious gathering practices—whether from garden, forest, or apothecary sources. We’ll explore how to read a plant’s readiness, how to harvest in ways that support regeneration, and how to work with both wild and cultivated herbs.
You’ll learn practical drying methods, troubleshooting mold and moisture, and best practices for storing herbs to maintain potency, color, aroma, and vitality over time. This class sets the tone for the entire journey, grounding your practice in care, reverence, and skill.
Project:
~ Build a simple herbal drying rack -
Tea is often our first relationship with herbal medicine, and also one of the most nuanced. In this class, we explore tea blending as both a sensory art and a therapeutic practice. You’ll learn how to create balanced blends using base, bridge, and accent herbs, while understanding how taste and energetics influence how herbs interact with the body.
We’ll dive into plant energetics and herbal materia medica, learning how to study herbs beyond memorization and begin forming lived relationships with them. This class also introduces personal constitutional patterns, helping students recognize how their own bodies respond to herbs and why certain plants feel supportive while others do not.
Project:
~ Craft multiple custom tea blends using eight different herbs -
NOTE: this class is held on the second Sunday)
This class focuses on drawing medicine into relationship through alcohol- and glycerin-based preparations. We’ll explore how different menstruums partner with plants to carry their medicine, and how to choose the right method depending on the herb, the body system, and the intended use.
We’ll work in depth with weight-to-volume methods as well folk methods, so students understand how, whyand when to use each. This class includes foundational teaching on dosing medicinal herbs, herbal safety, understanding strength and potency, and beginning to formulate remedies intentionally rather than randomly. We’ll also touch on early principles of herbal formulation, layering herbs thoughtfully rather than stacking indiscriminately.
Projects:
~ Elderberry tincture
~ Rosehip elixir
~Citrus Dandelion Bitters -
A deeply nourishing winter class centered on sweetness as a medicine. We’ll explore syrups, herbal honeys, and electuaries as traditional preparations for immune support, respiratory health, and daily nourishment. You’ll learn proper preparation techniques, storage considerations, and how to adapt recipes for children, elders, and sensitive systems.
Projects:
~ Herbal cough syrup
~ Honey pills
~ Herbal electuary -
Infused oils form the backbone of topical herbal medicine and offer a powerful doorway into working with the body’s internal rhythms. In this class, we’ll explore multiple oil infusion methods (Alcohol Intermediary being the primary focus), while grounding the practice in an understanding of the nervous system and lymphatic system — two key pathways for healing, regulation, and flow.
You’ll learn how herbs interact with the skin, nerves, and lymph, and how oils can support relaxation, repair, circulation, and detoxification. We’ll discuss oil selection, energetics, shelf life, and formulation, with a focus on creating remedies that support both resilience and rest.
Projects:
~ Infused body oil
~ Herbal facial serum -
This class explores vinegar-based medicine and mineral-rich preparations that bridge food and remedy. We’ll work with oxymels and herbal vinegars as daily tonics—supportive for digestion, immunity, and overall vitality.
You’ll learn how to balance sour and sweet, select appropriate herbs, and incorporate these preparations into daily life in simple, sustainable ways.
Project:
~ Fire cider oxymel or vinegar
~Horsetail and Rosemary hair rinse -
This class steps into the realm of smoke, prayer, and transformation. We’ll explore herbs as smoke medicine, used historically and cross-culturally for clearing, protection, ceremony, and connection. Emphasis will be placed on respectful use, intention, and understanding smoke as a subtle yet powerful form of plant medicine.
Students will learn how to prepare herbs for burning, blend resins and plants, and work with smoke in both ceremonial and practical ways. A history of Scottish / Irish Saining practices.
Projects:
~ Smoke wands
~ Incense (loose or formed) -
This class introduces the subtle, energetic layer of plant medicine. We’ll explore flower essences as allies for emotional, spiritual, and energetic support, while grounding the work in clarity, consent, and integrity.
You’ll learn how to prepare flower essences, work with intention, and integrate vibrational medicine alongside physical herbal remedies.
Projects:
~ Personal flower essence
~ Flower essence mist -
Focused on topical remedies for pain, inflammation, circulation, and nervous system support, this class brings together the medicine you’ve already made into applied use. We’ll explore liniments and other external preparations, discussing when to apply heat vs. cold, stimulation vs. soothing.
This class emphasizes practical, home-use remedies that support bodies in everyday life.
Projects:
~ Herbal liniment
~ One additional external remedy tbd -
This class brings herbalism fully into the kitchen, where medicine becomes part of daily nourishment. We’ll explore culinary herbs as both food and remedy, learning how to infuse intention, flavor, and medicinal benefit into everyday meals.

Projects:
~ Herbal salt
~ Infused herbal culinary oil -
Our final gathering is a spacious closing circle to reflect, integrate, and celebrate the journey. We’ll review key teachings, answer lingering questions, troubleshoot ongoing projects, and reflect on how each student’s relationship with plants has evolved.

"Callie's teaching didn't just deepen my understanding of plant medicine-it transformed the way I relate to the natural world and to myself. I walked away with practical skills, a stronger sense of purpose, and the confidence to share my own medicine. Her guidance is both mystical and grounded, and it truly changed my life."
~ Rosie M.
“I have sat with Callie in at least three of her in person classes. Her breadth of wisdom and the way she delivers information has helped shaped my plant path immensely. I feel so much confident as a medicine maker because of her teachings.” ~ Lexi R.
This class (Journey with Rose) is deeply personal, full of wisdom, magic and vulnerability. I can tell Callie put an incredible amount of time and effort into how the class was organized. You will get your moneys worth a million times over. The wisdom I learned is something I’ll be able to carry with me throughout my life, and I feel deeply grateful for the time we all invested in not only rose, but ourselves and each other. “Journey with rose” is indeed a journey; it’s a coming home to ourselves and nature. I 1000% recommend this class!

Callie's class was so incredible. From the box of supplies and rose medicines (which I use every day!), to the depth of wisdom for the spirit, history and lore of the plants, and of course the medicine making teachings-all were above and beyond! I learned so much and felt so much. She is an incredible teacher,, and I look forward to all of her future offerings!

Meet your Instructor
Callie Blue Heron North
I am island raised daughter of the land, a mother of two, partner to a woodsman, and overall life enthusiast.
I consider myself a folk herbalist, although I have studied clinical methods throughout my herbal path. I have studied herbalism in some capacity for more than 15 years and have run a brick-and-mortar Apothecary for 10 years on Lopez Island. It took me many years to realize that my greatest joy in the world of herbalism is making medicine. I find it to be extremely rewarding, spiritual, and ultimately, deeply fun. I want to share this joy with you and help support you along your plant path, whether you are new to the craft or looking to deepen the knowledge you already carry.
The Medicine Maker’s Journey was born out of the absolute excitement and joy I take in making herbal medicines. I am confident you will leave this course deeply inspired and connected to a whole new way of relating with the world of plants.
